Stablecoins: The "Printing Machine" Business in the Crypto and Stock Markets#
Many newcomers may find "stablecoins" mysterious at first, but in essence, they are digital forms of the US dollar or Chinese yuan. Their value fluctuates very little, but the business scale behind them far exceeds imagination.
1. Issuing Stablecoins is Easy, Using Them is Hard#
The globally leading stablecoin USDT has faced skepticism and FUD multiple times.
The most severe incident occurred when the exchange rate of the US dollar to the Chinese yuan was 1:7, and USDT briefly dropped to over 5 yuan.
Despite this, USDT still firmly holds the top position.
The second-ranked USDC is mainly used for deposits on Coinbase for financial management.
The gap in profitability is obvious:
- Tether, which issues USDT, has an annual profit of $14 billion
- Circle, which issues USDC, has an annual profit of only $140 million
- The gap is as high as 99%
Why is there such a disparity?
Because issuing USDT incurs no channel fees, and all government bond interest belongs to Tether.
In contrast, Circle must use 90% of its revenue for exchange "listing fees" (such as the listing costs on Binance and Coinbase).
2. US Stock Companies Also Want to "Print Money"#
Many publicly listed companies in the US plan to issue their own stablecoins, which makes sense.
If used solely for stock trading, the cost of applying for a license is relatively low, and stock prices could soar by 30% directly.
3. Stablecoins + Proprietary Chains = Double Impact#
Almost all stablecoin projects will create dedicated blockchains.
As early as 2022, I proposed building a chain using USDT, and at that time, the idea was praised as innovative but lacked investment.
Now Tether and Circle are advancing this matter.
Why do stablecoins need dedicated chains?
My planning at that time was as follows:
- Set DEX native trading pairs as /USDT to ensure more stable prices
- USDT holders can serve as nodes and earn Gas fees
- USDT as a Gas token requires no authorization, providing higher security (unless the private key is leaked)
4. Terrifying Scenarios of Big Companies Entering the Market#
Imagine:
- Meituan Chain: Supports a stablecoin in yuan, with tens of millions of riders' salaries paid directly in stablecoins, instantly giving Meituan a chain with tens of millions of users.
- Apple Chain: Apple issues a stablecoin in dollars, allowing global developers to recharge and spend with one click via Apple Pay.
This is not a fantasy but a real possibility.
Once realized, it will create another giant on the level of Meituan or Apple.
5. First Public Relations, Then Harvest#
Established companies like Tether or Circle will soar if they achieve cooperation before giants like Apple and Google awaken.
For example:
If Apple holds hundreds of billions of dollars in cash and entrusts Circle to issue stablecoins,
the full interest on US government bonds would be returned to Apple, and the issuance of USDC would immediately surpass USDT, causing Circle's stock price to skyrocket.
6. Opportunities for New Players#
Current entrants must seek new breakthroughs.
For instance, binding with major companies, combining with specific scenarios, or collaborating with the government.
7. The Possibility of National-Level Players#
Suppose the Chinese government issues a dollar stablecoin and controls 90% of the supply,
this would be equivalent to directly participating in the "printing" business of the US.
Although this matter requires time to brew, it is not impossible.
8. The Chaos Has Just Begun#
Stablecoins are not just business; they are also a symbol of sovereignty.
Once the commercial ceiling is broken, it will escalate into national competition.
Just like the sudden emergence of atomic bombs in the era of cold weapons, all rules will be overturned.
9. If Nothing Happens...#
If everything develops smoothly, Tether will eventually become the world's number one company.
Based on Circle's highest price-to-earnings ratio, Tether's valuation could reach $6 trillion, surpassing Nvidia.
It is only a matter of time before USDT increases from $150 billion to $1.5 trillion.
But can Apple still sell 10 times the iPhones?
10. If You Don't Understand, You Will Lose#
Many large companies will eventually find that, although they made no mistakes, they have lost their territory.
Because—
The best business in the world is printing money,
Better than printing money is printing money directly in digital form without paper,
And better than digital printing money is—printing money using others' credit,
Transferring risks to others while enjoying profits solely for oneself.
Stablecoins are undoubtedly one of the most profitable areas in the crypto and stock markets in the future.
It is not too late to understand now.
